Candidates who apply for the large vehicle driving test should pay attention!  Since February 1, 2021, the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC has included correct operation of the large vehicle vision-assist system as one test items to encourage drivers to understand the system to save lives and reduce the incidence of accidents.

In the past, drivers of large vehicles mostly used their rear-view mirrors to help reduce blind spots.  However, rear-view mirrors can’t eliminate all blind spots, and so traffic accidents often happen when turning or changing lanes.  Therefore, the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC stipulates that from January 1, 2020, all new large vehicles must have the large vehicle vision-assist system installed and be included as one of vehicle inspection items.  Meanwhile, to cultivate correct operating knowledge of the vision-assist system during driving training, it is included as a test item so that drivers get used to monitoring the vision-assist system and enhance the driver’s defensive driving ability.

According to the Taipei City Vehicle Supervisory Office, the test items of the vision-assist system include checking before starting driving, railroad level crossings, crossroads, zebra pedestrian crossings and roundabouts, with each item accounting for 32 points.  In general, the criteria is no turning the head to look at the vision-assist system and no talking.  The content of the spoken text should be understood and include at least the key words driving vision.

For the road test scoring standards, score records and relevant regulations for large vehicle drivers can be found on the Taipei City Vehicle Supervisory Office website.
