The Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office, Highway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, emphasizes the importance of adhering to the provisions of Article 49 of the Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance Act. According to this article, individuals obligated to insure must renew their insurance contracts in accordance with the law. Failure to do so, or not renewing before the expiration of the insurance period, may result in an administrative fine imposed by the highway supervisory authority when discovered at a roadside check by the highway supervisory authority or by the police or when causing an accident.
The office points out that if a police officer issues a violation notice for a road traffic management offense and the vehicle is not currently insured with compulsory insurance, the highway supervisory authority will impose fines based on the type of vehicle. For motorcycles, the fine ranges from NT$1,500 to NT$3,000, and for cars, it ranges from NT$3,000 to NT$15,000. In case of an accident, a maximum fine of NT$32,000 may be imposed.
The office reminds vehicle owners that in the event of a change in residence or contact address, they should inform the insurance company to ensure receipt of renewal notices. It is crucial to complete the renewal procedures before the insurance expiration date to safeguard personal rights and prevent greater losses.
