ContentMotorbike riders with less riding experience are likely to cause more accidents. To enhance motorbike riders’ safety on the road, the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC has offered motorbike driving lesson subsidies since 2019 to encourage motorbike riders to take driving lessons. According to research by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University entrusted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communication, those taking driving lessons have a lower risk for traffic law violations by 32% and a lower accident rate by 20% than those who have not taken driving lessons. Accordingly, through complete driving lessons, which include 6 hours of theory class and 10 hours of practical training, the general public can enhance their driving skills, acquaint themselves with traffic safety rules, develop correct driving habits, better understand risks on the road before driving, form concepts about defensive driving, and effectively reduce traffic accidents and casualties, keeping the roads safer.

To encourage students to take driving lessons before taking the exam for motorbike driving license, Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office is cooperating with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and the Taipei Driving School Alliance to hold the “taking driving lessons before riding a motorbike and taking theory class at school” campaign. Under cooperation among the three parties, theory class is offered at school (Yang Ming Campus). Therefore, students can finish theory class without commuting to the driving school. They can later complete the practical training at the driving school and take a license exam there to apply for a motorbike driving lesson subsidy of $1,300. This arrangement increases convenience and students’ willingness to take driving lessons for motorbike riders.

Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office has indicated that, to enhance the safety of motorbike riders on the road, the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC has increased the quota for subsidies to 20,000 people. Those who want to take driving lessons for motorbike riders should not miss this great opportunity.
