Companies Subsidize Motorbike Riders to Take Driving Lessons

In response to MOTC’s “motorbike riders taking driving lessons” policy, Hotai Finance Corporation held the “Riding a Motorbike after Taking Driving Lessons;. Safety is not out of Luck” Promotion Press Conference together with the National Road Traffic Safety Commission, Highway Bureau, and Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office today (September 22). A series of sponsorship and campaigns have been released;, including for example, for three enrollments of motorbike driving lessons, each rider will receive a complimentary helmet (thea total of 270 helmets); dashcam lucky draw for those who acquireing a driver’s license for scooter and shareing a photo (50 dashcams); full subsidy $4000 for medium and low income families (for 125 people, thea total of NT$500,000). Besides, to help promote the motorbike driving lessons policy, a campaign video has been specially made to further encourage people with the slogan “Riding a Motorbike after Taking Driving Lessons;. Safety is not out of Luck” and aims to ensure that everyone can contribute to traffic safety together.


Director of Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office Jiang Shu-ren suggests that, according to the research and analysis by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University entrusted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, those who takeing driving lessons have less at a lower risk for traffic law violations by 32% and a lower risk for accidents rate by 20% than those who do not take driving lessons. These findings proves that under a complete driving training, with 6 hours of theories for 6 hours and 10 hours of practical lessons for 10 hours, the riders’ driving skills are enhanced; they become better acquainted with traffic safety regulations better and can develop correct driving habits. In addition, before riding a motorbike on the road, they will understand the risks on the road better and establish a good understanding offor defensive driving, effectively reducing traffic accidents and tragedies.


The Office also indicateds that inexperienced motorbike riders have a higher accident rate. To enhance traffic safety for motorbike riders, the Highway Bureau will continue to promoting motorbike driving lessons. So far in 2022, it has offered a motorbike driving lesson subsidy of NT$1300/person for 20,000 riders in Taiwan. Those who intending to take exams for driving licenses for scooters shall never miss this great opportunity.
