Domestically Made Vehicles (Motorcycles)

1. Two copies of the new license plate registration application form for qualified vehicles (motorcycles).
2. Manufacturer and commodity tax payment certificate.
3. Unified invoice.
4. One of the following proof documents:
   1. Individual: Original ID card (or military ID card or alien residence certificate).
   2. Company: Official document for approval of company registration (including company registration form) issued by a competent authority or certificate of company registration issued by a competent authority and unified business number issued by a taxation authority. In case of copied proof documents, a copy of the latest receipt of business tax payment shall be submitted as well.
5. Owner’s seal (on-site signature is acceptable).
6. Insurance policy for compulsory automobiles liability insurance with an expiration date that exceeds 30 days.
7. Proof document of qualified vehicle safety inspection issued by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
8. For vehicles made domestically after October 1, 2007 (inclusive), please submit the proof of completion of the anti-theft identification code.

Imported Vehicles (Motorcycles)

1. Two copies of the new license plate registration application form for qualified vehicles (motorcycles).
2. Unified invoice.
3. Manufacturer’s certificate.
4. One of the following proof documents:
   1. Individual: Original ID card (or military ID card or alien residence certificate).
   2. Company: Official document for approval of company registration (including company registration form) issued by a competent authority or certificate of company registration issued by a competent authority and unified business number issued by a taxation authority. In case of copied proof documents, a copy of the latest receipt of business tax payment shall be submitted as well.
5. Vehicles shall be inspected and approved by the Environmental Protection Administration; sedans and station wagons shall also be inspected and approved by the Energy Committee.
6. Owner’s seal (on-site signature is acceptable).
7. Insurance policy for compulsory automobiles liability insurance with an expiration date that exceeds 30 days.
8. Proof document of qualified vehicle safety inspection issued by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
9. For vehicles imported after October 1, 2007 (inclusive) according to the shipping date, please submit the proof of completion of the anti-theft identification code.

1. Pay the vehicle license tax, fuel fee, and other fees.
2. Before obtaining a new vehicle license plate, applicants shall have the vehicle inspected and submit the qualified New License Plate Registration Form. For the inspection of imported small vehicles, please visit Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office on Bade Road or Shilin Station on Chengde Road; for the inspection of large trucks and large passenger vehicles, please visit Shilin Station.
3. New license plates shall be processed within one month upon the qualified inspection of the vehicle at Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office or Shilin Station. A new vehicle shall be processed within one month upon the qualified inspection, or re-inspection shall be carried out.
4. For individuals applying for a license plate for a small private truck: The applicant shall submit a valid small vehicle or above and have an occupation related to agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, farming, handicraft, carpentry, masonry, painting, ironwork, cleaning, plumbing, fixed vending, environmental protection, bulldozing, and excavation. One applicant shall apply for one vehicle license only. The applicant shall submit a proof document issued by a trade union, a land ownership certificate of agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, farming, or planting flowers, a registration certificate of a ship, pasture, horticultural, or forestry, or a vendor certificate issued by a market authority. Migrant workers that cannot provide a proof document issued by a trade union may submit an affidavit and one small private truck occupation guarantee signed by two guarantors, as well as the original ID cards of all the related parties (the guarantor shall be at least 20 years old and a national of the R.O.C. who can fully bear legal responsibilities). The guarantor shall live in the same village as the applicant, unless it is a second-degree relative or closer. A copy of the guarantor’s ID card is acceptable only if the sentence “This copy is identical to the original; in case of falseness, I shall bear all legal responsibilities” is noted on the copy. If applicants working on a farm or assisting in farming cannot submit a land ownership certificate, such applicants may provide a copy of a lineal family member or spouse’s land ownership certificate, household registration transcript, or ID card, as well as the household certificate.
5. Regarding companies applying for a license plate for a small private truck, such companies shall be subject to turnovers for the past two months.
6. Domestically made vehicles and large imported vehicles shall be inspected and passed according to the requirements of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. New models of domestically made and imported vehicles shall be inspected and passed based on vehicle safety and quality consistence. For detailed requirements, please refer to Article 17 of the Regulations Governing Road Traffic Safety.
7. For private trucks and large passenger vehicles, the application shall be processed according to the regulations of large vehicle plate.
8. For commercial vehicles, the application shall be processed according to the regulations of the transportation industry.
9. The applicant shall process the vehicle’s inspection and new license plate at the same motor vehicles office.
10. For owners less than 18 years old, please bring a legal guardian’s original ID card and a letter of consent signed by the legal guardian.
11. If applicants want to select the license plate number, a fee shall be paid: NT$2000 for vehicles and NT$1000 for motorcycles (NT$2000 for 550cc large heavy-duty motorcycles).
