Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.
Services Items

Required Documents

  1. One of the following proof documents:
    1. Individual: Original ID card (or military ID card or alien residence certificate).
    2. Company: Official document for approval of company registration (including company registration form) issued by a competent authority or certificate of company registration issued by a competent authority and unified business number issued by a taxation authority. In case of copied proof documents, a copy of the latest receipt of business tax payment shall be submitted as well.
  2. Owner’s seal (on-site signature is acceptable).
  3. In the case of a stolen vehicle plate, please submit the proof of the stolen vehicle plate issued by the police; if one vehicle plate is lost, the other one shall still be handed in.
  4. Original vehicle license.
  5. Original New License Plate Registration Form (If the form is lost, it can be reissued upon application).
  6. Vehicle and Motorcycle Alteration Registration Form.
  7. A valid insurance policy for compulsory automobiles liability insurance with an expiration date that exceeds 30 days.
  8. For applicants with movable property as a guarantee, please bring a letter of the creditor’s consent. No cross-district applications are allowed.
  9. Any outstanding fuel fee, vehicle license tax, and fines shall be paid and proof of payment documents submitted.

Notices

  1. Commercial vehicles shall be approved by the relevant competent authority.
  2. A lost New License Plate Registration Form or vehicle license can be reissued upon submitting an application. Please bring a copy of your ID card to apply for the reissuance of a New License Plate Registration Form. For applicants with movable property as a guarantee, please also bring a letter of the creditor’s consent.
  3. If the vehicle or motorcycle license plate is lost or damaged or retrieved (before the owner applies for reissuance), the vehicle shall first be verified by the Vehicle Inspection Division. If the vehicle has not been inspected by the deadline stipulated on the vehicle license, or the license plate is illegible or seriously damaged due to a traffic accident, the applicant shall submit the application within one month upon qualified inspection. If the application is submitted later than one month afterward, the vehicle shall be re-inspected. For the inspection of small imported vehicles, please visit Taipei City Motor Vehicles Office or Shilin Station; for trucks and large passenger vehicles, please visit Shilin Station.
  4. If the vehicle or motorcycle license plate is lost or damaged, the applicant shall reapply for a new license plate. The same number as that of the original license plate is not allowed.
